At first I wasn’t sure whether to use the word, “healer,” to describe how I work with people. The word, “healer,” just had too many connotations I wasn’t sure I wanted to be associated with in my work. After thinking about the word more thoroughly and getting feedback from some students, I decided to still use this word as part of what I do as an embodied movement teacher.
To me, a healer doesn’t necessarily heal others, but is an example of a human being who is committed to being intimate with their healing process and sharing their wisdom to facilitate healing with their students and community, which I do.
I am committed to staying on the path that intimately keeps me awake and close to my body, mind, and heart - what I call the spiritual path. And know that I will continuously fumble and yet still choose to get back on the path as soon as I can.
To me a healer is not necessarily someone who has been fully healed as well. But a person, who takes consistent steps to be intimate with their life’s pains, sufferings, joys, creativity, and shadows; committed to showing up to their life and continuously learning from it. And when it is too much, they (as well as me) reaches out for help from nature, their toolbox, and the teachers/healers/friends in their community.
How does that land for you?
